2011 Georges Duboeuf Beaujolais Nouveau

There was a lot of buzz on social media this year for the Beaujolais Nouveau release day. I’ll admit, I was a little intrigued. So, when I saw this bottle at a local market for less than $12 I thought I would give it a go. And, boy, was I glad I did….

Color: Very dark purple

Aroma: Fruit punch, dark berry, raspberry, blackberry

Flavor: Pomegranate, blackberry, holiday spices

Finish: Light and fruit filled.

This wine really, really surprised me (and our wine industry guests). We all thought the wine was better when slightly chilled as the bottle recommends. I likened this to a ‘dark’ rose – which, I guess, is what it really is. I liked it so much, I think I will go back and get a few more bottles. And at $12, I don’t feel bad opening it on a Wednesday night.
